OnePlus 12's cameras get detailed ahead of the phone's global debut

In less than 24 hours, OnePlus will finally introduce the OnePlus 12 for international markets, following the phone's initial announcement for China back in December. So now is a great time to talk about its cameras, OnePlus has thought, since it just put out a press release that's all about them. Let's dive in, shall we? The OnePlus 12 "will boast an industry-firt" customized Sony LYT-808 main camera, with a 1/1.4-inch sensor. The size lets it absorb 50% more light than the IMX890 main sensor used in the OnePlus 11, which should ensure exceptional performance in low-light or...

Exynos 2500 specs leak

Samsung's Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ feature the Korean company's own Exynos 2400 SoC in some markets, and these were just unveiled last week. And yet, we already have a leak about the upcoming Exynos 2500 chipset, which is due to be used in the Galaxy S25 family a year from now. The CPU will allegedly keep the 10-core configuration of the Exynos 2400, but the 2500 will use ARM's upcoming CPU cores. It will be made on Samsung's second-generation 3nm process (3nm GAP/SF3). This is apparently better than TSMC's current 3nm process in area and efficiency. The Exynos 2500's CPU is said...

Here's the official list of Motorola smartphones getting Android 14

Some companies, like Samsung, have almost finished their rollouts of Android 14 for dozens of devices already. Others, not so much. Today we're talking about Motorola. The brand has published information about which devices it will update to the latest version of the OS across its website. It's not an easily accessible list, mind you - you have to search for a particular device and only then, on each device's page, will you get any indication of whether you should expect Android 14 to come your way. Thankfully, the folks over at YTECHB have gone through all of the devices and...

Galaxy S24 series arrive with huge focus on AI - Week 3 in review

We can officially call the past seven days 'Galaxy week'. Samsung dominated the headlines with the Galaxy S24 series announcement, despite rumors and leaks spoiling most of the surprises. Naturally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra outshone the Galaxy S24 and S24+ thanks to its new 5x camera, Titanium frame and new Corning glass, and, well, the fact that it's Samsung's biggest flagship of the year. AI was front and center at the announcement - the new Galaxies enable a myriad of AI-powered features. Circle to Search is a gesture-driven feature made in collaboration with Google - you long-press on...

Redmi Note 13 4G in for review

Xiaomi commenced its Redmi Note 13 series global rollout last week and also announced a pair of Note 13 4G models. Redmi Note 13 4G is the most affordable entry in the series and is the latest device to make its way to the office. Based on the spec sheet, the chipset is the only difference between the Note 13 4G and its 5G counterpart but let’s see what else we've got here. Our Note 13 4G review unit comes in the Midnight Black color which features a mirror-like glossy finish on the back. It looked clean right out of the box but it was quickly smudged by fingerprints as we were...

Samsung Galaxy S24 pre-orders start in the US, Galaxy A25 and A15 5G too

This week’s Unpacked event brought Samsung’s latest flagships – the Galaxy S24 trio. You can check out our hands-on review for an introduction to the new features and hardware upgrades. And if you’re curious what all those AI features are all about, watch these videos. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a rethink on how the long telephoto lens should work – instead of a fixed 10x lens, Samsung went for 5x magnification and a high resolution 50MP sensor that offers high quality zoom between 5x and 10x. And more, it enables 8K video recording and 4K @ 120fps from the tele camera. ...

Flashback: the weird add-ons that boosted the Samsung Galaxy S cameras

Samsung says that the new Galaxy S24 Ultra has a “Quad Tele System” that offers four magnification levels: 2x, 3x, 5x and 10x. The middle two are achieved with optics, the first and last with advanced image processing. That’s just for zooming in, the S24 Ultra does have four actual cameras on its back – but it wasn’t that long ago when phones had just the one. That was the case in 2016 when the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge arrived – there was a single 12MP camera with a 26mm f/1.7 lens. It was fairly advanced with Dual Pixel autofocus and OIS, but still it locked you into a single focal...

Weekly poll results: Asus ROG Phone 8/8 Pro attract attention, but could do with a price cut

The last page of our Asus ROG Phone 8/8 Pro review begins with “The ROG Phone is not a cheap device.” And we’re not the only ones that feel that way, in fact, it was the common sentiment in last week’s poll. Our review ends on a positive note and we found that Asus succeeded in its quest to make the ROG Phone 8 models more appealing to mainstream consumers. Many still see it as a gaming phone and aren’t interested in it, but maybe they will reconsider. As for others, a hotly debated topic in the comments was the switch to a punch hole camera. The ROG phones were among the last to...

Huawei P70 series to come with a 6.7-inch screen and 50MP main cam with variable aperture

A new post by the well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, reveals some of the Huawei P70 series' specs and the leak seems to arrive just in time. Since the Huawei P60 series came out in March last year, it's safe to assume that the P70 family will come out in the next two months or so. The post reads a quad-curved OLED panel on the front with a 1.5K resolution and a 6.7-inch diagonal. It's also a bit hard to tell from the machine-translated Chinese, but the handsets may come with two front-facing stereo speakers. Additionally, the trio of back cameras will be arranged in an...

Samsung Galaxy A15 in for review

This is the new Samsung Galaxy A15 - the LTE variant, mind you, not the 5G-enabled one, and it steps in to replace the Galaxy A14. The Galaxy A15 brings a 90Hz Super AMOLED display - a big step up from the 60Hz PLS LCD on the 4G Galaxy A14. The other key change is the move to a much more efficient 6nm MediaTek Helio G99 with as much as 8GB of RAM. Samsung kept the camera system mostly intact, ditto the 5,000mAh battery, but you do get faster charging at 25W. The Galaxy A15 ships with a USB cable. We have the Blue Black model - it's a dark blue as you'd guess, and it mostly...

Xiaomi recently unveiled the Redmi Note 13 5G, and we've just got a unit at office to review. But before starting our review process, let's unbox the Redmi Note 13 5G and see what's on offer. We've got the Ocean Teal version of the Redmi Note 13 5G, which comes in a white-colored retail box, including a protective case, charging cable, a 33W power adapter, and a SIM ejector tool. The Redmi Note 13 5G is powered by the Dimensity 6080 SoC, has up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage onboard, and runs Android 13-based MIUI 14 out of the box. OnePlus Watch 2 with Wear OS to be unveiled at MWC next month

Last year we heard that the OnePlus Watch 2 would finally launch this year, and today a new rumor definitely corroborates that. According to a source that has been accurate at times in the past, the OnePlus Watch 2 will become official at Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona at the end of next month. Furthermore, it's once again said to run Wear OS. Hopefully that means Wear OS 4, as previously leaked. This would make the OnePlus Watch 2 very different from the original OnePlus Watch, which launched back in 2021 and ran a proprietary OS. Xiaomi took the plunge into...

Google teases new Minty Fresh colorway for the Pixel 8 Pro

Google's online store is now teasing a new drop. It's not a new device, mind you, just a new color for the Pixel 8 Pro. It will become available on January 25 at midnight PT, and it's called Minty Fresh. It's actually unclear whether this will be limited to just the Pixel 8 Pro (shown in the teaser), or if it will also make its way to the Pixel 8. We don't have a lot to wait in order to find out, however. 01000110 01110010 01100101 01110011 01101000 00100000 01111001 01100101 01100001 01110010 00101100 00100000 01100110 01110010 01100101 01110011 01101000 00100000 01100100 01110010...

Xiaomi Mix Flip gets certified in China with support for satellite connectivity

Back in September of last year we first heard that Xiaomi was working on a flip-style foldable to complement the Mix Fold line in its portfolio. This was to be called Xiaomi Mix Flip, and it was rumored to arrive alongside the Mix Fold 4 at some point later this year. Today, the Mix Flip has been certified in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The certification reveals what might be a surprising fact: the Mix Flip will have support for satellite connectivity. The fact that it's going to be running Android is also confirmed, as is its 5G support, but...

Samsung Galaxy AI is coming to these older devices

Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra - all three models bursting at the seams with AI. Galaxy AI, in fact. They will be running Android 14 of course, with One UI 6.1 on top - unlike any other Samsung device so far (they're all on One UI 6 tops). So, if you have an older Samsung, you may be wondering whether your device will at some point get some of those AI features. Good news: the answer is yes. "Many" of them, according to Samsung itself. The models that will, at least initially, get these AI features, are the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+,...

Tecno's second-generation foldable, the Phantom V2 Fold, is expected to arrive in Q1 this year and its likely debut is during this year's MWC 2024 in Barcelona. Ahead of the announcement, the handset stopped by Geekbench, revealing some of its specs. If you are familiar with Geekbench's listings, you probably know the bits they reveal. For instance, the sheet suggests the upcoming Phantom V2 Fold will run on the MediaTek Dimenisity 9000+ chip. That's the same chip inside the original Phantom V Fold. The unit tested has 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 14, but those likely aren't...

HarmonyOS Next gets closer to prime time, video shows off the new UI design language

HarmonyOS Next is getting closer to release – Huawei just posted an introduction video that highlights some of the changes to the UI design language. It’s trying to break away from the drab flat design and add back dimensionality with concepts like “Spatial,” “Vivid Color” and “Immersive.” This version of HarmonyOS is dubbed “Star River” edition, although some online translation services render the name as “Galaxy” edition. We’ll stick with “Star River” to avoid confusion. HarmonyOS Next will drop Android support in China, so local developers are busy porting over their apps to...

Samsung's Galaxy AI was a big part of today's Unpacked event – the generative AI service debuts on the Galaxy S24 smartphones and Samsung is keen to position it as one of their key selling points. The company revealed the new technology is powered by Google Cloud.
